General Specifications

Most sites in the IDG TechNetwork accept all Rich Media creative for all ad units, including but not limited to:

  • Eyeblaster
  • Pointroll
  • Klipmart
  • DART (Motif)

Additional Requirements

  • Video
    • Can start with ad launch
    • 30 second maximum (hosted by 3rd party)
    • Must turn off with click
  • Sound
    • Must be user initiated by click
    • Must have a control button to turn off sound
  • Pre-roll
    • 30 second maximum

Banner Ads

  • Maximum number of loops: 3 (total animation time of 30 seconds)
  • Alt text: 60 Characters  
  • Due Date: Please allow 5 business days before live date.
  • Tracking: IDG TechNetwork.com tracks click-throughs and impressions on all advertisements

300x250 (IMU) 

  • Expandable units
  • Left only
  • Maximum size: 600x250

336x280 (IMU) 

  • Expandable units

728x90 (Leaderboard)

  • Expandable units

160x600 (Skyscraper)

Flash Files (Hosted by IDG TechNetwork)

  • Provide creative in Flash (.swf) file format (40K max.)
  • Include backup.gif
  • Provide clickthrough URL — do NOT hard code the URL into the .swf file
  • Include a button action in the Flash file coded as follows (Actionscript 2 or lower; Actionscript 3 is pending support):

Peel Back Ad Unit

  • Two creative components are needed to make up this unit, with both files not to exceed 40K in file size:
    • Must be created by a 3rd party Rich Media Vendor
    • 125x100 – gif. or Flash teaser unit is located at the top right of the site
    • 800x600 – Ad size that the teaser folds to
  • Video
    • Can start with ad launch
    • User initiated video has no time limits, but, must turn off with click
  • Sound
    • Must be user initiated by click
    • Must have a control button to turn off sound
  • Due Date: Please allow 5 business days before live date.

Welcome Ads

A take-over ad that welcomes users to IDG TechNetwork site

  • Dimensions: 640x480
  • May include 20 seconds maximum of sound and video
    • Video can start with ad launch
    • Sound must be user initiated by click and have a control button to turn off sound
  • Maximum file size: 40K
  • Due Date: Please allow 5 business days before live date.

Ez-Blaster Units

These units are custom designed by IDG TechNetwork. These units are located under the 336x280 ad unit; when user rolls over the company logo and teaser, unit will expand to a 620x250 ad with interactive features.

In-Banner Video/Webcast Units

In-Banner videos have a 30 second limit, unless initiated with a click. The following formats are accepted:

  • 320 X 240 Encoded Flash Video Files (.FLV)
  • .wmv
  • QT.MOV
  • DV Cam Tape (Preferred)
  • Videos must be served via a Rich Media vendor*

Text Links

  • 55 characters with linking URL
  • Tracking: IDG TechNetwork.com tracks click-throughs on all advertisements and provides the advertiser with periodic reports.

Pushdown Units

  • Required files:
    • Banner (collapsed): 970(w) x 90(h), 39k max file size
    • Banner (expanded): 970(w) x 200 – 418(h), 961k max file size, hosted by 3rd Party Media Vendor*
    • BackUp GIF: 970(w) x 90(h), 15k max file size
  • Specifications:
    • Expansion: Auto expansion frequency capped at 1 per user per day (this can be adjusted on a case by case basis), subsequent expansions must be user initiated on clickDuration.
    • 8 seconds on frequency capped auto expansion, unlimited for subsequent user initiated expansions
    • May include video functionality
    • Must contain a clearly defined Expand & Close click button - user initiated expansion on rollover not allowed. The expanded state must have clearly visible close buttons in the upper right corner
    • The ad will collapse if the user clicks the close button OR if the user does not interact with the user initiated expanded ad for 8 seconds
    • Frame Labels: The main timeline should contain the (3) three frame labels below to control the behavior as follows:
        Prompt
      • When the ad reaches its minimum height of 66 pixels, the playback head will display this frame label
      • This frame label should contain the collapsed 970x66 portion of the ad Prompt
        Expanding
      • While the pushdown ad is expanding and pushing page elements downwards, the playback head will display this frame label
      • This frame label should contain static imagery for when the ad expands
        Animate
      • Once the ad has completed expanding and reaches the max height of 418 pixels, the playback head will display this frame label
      • This frame label should contain all animation for the expanded pushdown
        Audio
      • Must be user initiated by click
      • All audio enabled ads must have prominently displayed audio controls (mute/unmute) when/if applicable
      • Must be encoded at a maximum volume of -12db
